RNIB College Loughborough: Using text-to-speech software on mobile phones for visually-impaired learners
Visually-impaired learners have benefited from using scanning software on their Smartphones to be able to turn printed materials into audio recordings. The major advantages of this technique are the accuracy and the portability of the device, but the drawback is the cost involved.

Northampton College: Capturing TV programmes for use in the classroom

Northampton College has introduced a commercial system (ClickView) for recording and then digitally distributing TV programmes within the classroom. This has allowed greater integration of video into traditional teaching methods than was previously happening via DVD-based resources.

South East Derbyshire College: Media server – one college's approach to providing video resources

Getting video resources to staff and learners at South East Derbyshire College was a relatively costly and time-consuming process until the College adopted a new piece of cheap software and created their own media server. This has allowed far greater use of video resources and improved the quality of the picture.

RNIB College Loughborough: Visually-impaired learners benefit from audio and synchronised text on their mobile phones
Using DAISY Player software on a mobile has allowed visually-impaired learners to copy e-books to their mobile phones and to listen at their convenience.

South Nottingham College: Trialling e-portfolio systems
South Nottingham College has been taking part in an e-portfolio project to see what benefits can be obtained for students and staff. The e-portfolio system chosen was PebblePad and a pilot is currently underway with a variety of subject areas in the College. Initial successes have been in the recording of evidence and in the longer term it is hoped to increase the amount of reflective thinking in the e-portfolios.

Homefield College: Learning IT and pre-vocational skills through eBay
In April 2008 a new vocational enterprise called Aladkins Cave was created by Homefield College as a project to develop the functional and IT skills of its students. The enterprise provides a service buying and selling items on the online auction site, eBay, thereby providing a wealth of learning opportunities for its students.
